Why does the display blink on an Edenpure G-7 air purifier?

January 25th, 2011

Filters are clean, have tried turning off and on to no avail. The manufacturer’s website wants to charge me a hefty fee to even call to ask the question.

How can I tell when the HEPA filter in my air purifier needs to be changed?

January 1st, 2011

I have a small air purifier for my bedroom that I have been using since October. I thought the point of the appliance was to keep dust and allergens from staying in the air. I have noticed that even the purifier is gathering dust. Does this means the ionic filter should be changed?
When I open it, the backside of the filter does not appear dirty, and the front side has only a thin layer of gray dirt. What should it look like before it gets changed.

Note- The filter is the proper size given the dimensions of the room, and windows and doors are only left open occasionally.

Looking to buy an air purifier?

December 31st, 2010

We’re considering on two air purifiers, the Whirlpool AP51030K or the Hunter 30547. I was checking on Amazon and I noticed a huge difference on both of their air filter replacements. The Whirlpool’s filter is about and the Hunter’s filter is about . I was wondering what’s the reason why one of them is so expensive and the other isn’t? Also, how often would you change a filter? Ex 3 months

what is the best air purifier to use if you have birds. They create a lot of feather dust.?

I have 3 birds and they create a lot of feather dust. I would like to buy an air purifier to cut down on the dust and dander. There are a lot of purifiers out there and I’m confused about which one would work best for me and also be the most inexpensive as far as filter replacement is concerned.

What is a good brand of air purifier?

November 22nd, 2010

I’ve had ozone generator air purifiers in the past. I hated them. I do not want an ozone producing air purifier, but more of an air filter. However, filters that have to be replaced are a pain. Does anyone make an air filter with a washable filtration system?

I’m open to suggestions, if you have a brand that you’re happy with, let me know!

Does anyone here own a Oreck Air purifier, if so does it work?

November 14th, 2010

I have a dust problem that just won’t go away no matter what I do. Yes, we change the filters every month. Yes, we had our ducts cleaned. Yes, I clean all the time. No the windows aren’t left open, no i do not have any pets. Please if you do not own an Oreck Purifier please do not respond. If you work for a air purifier competitor please do not respond.

I just need to know does it really work, are you happy with it, was it worth the money? Thank you!

Honeywell HFD-015 Air Purifier?

November 12th, 2010

Anybody know where I can locate an Owner’s Manual for a Honeywell HFD-015 Air Purifier? I’ve been to the Honeywell website, and then on to Kaz’s website, and I can’t find one anywhere. I’ve got a light on the unit that I can’t seem to extinguish … even after cleaning the filters … and, of course, my manual is nowhere to be found. Thanks.
Thanks, but I am seeking an Owner’s Manual at no cost …. Fixya.com wants to charge.

What is the best Air Purifier to use for Cigarette Smoke?

November 11th, 2010

I have just moved into a new place and found out that the Basement tenants smoke. I have filters and bounce sheets in all of the vents and blankets under the doors. My house still stinks like smoke. I have spoken with my landlords who have informed me that the tenants in the basement do smoke and that they would go halfers with me on an Air Purifier to help.

Thanks!

I was looking at the Sharper Image Hybrid GP Germicidal Air Purifier. I would get it for like 0. Which is 0 less than advertised. I also do know that they save a lot of energy compared to other brand filters and you dont have to buy 0 replacement filters every year. I need help please. Also can you please post some reference links. Thank you very much.

Previously used air purifier SMELLS when on?!?!?

November 5th, 2010

I bought a used air purifier off of craigslist.com that worked fine. I wasn’t sure if it would help my allergies so I thought I’d go the cheap way first. Well once I got the thing home and turned it on, it started giving off this weird smell. I’m assuming it’s just the smell of the guy’s house. It doesn’t stink but is really distinct and bothers me!!!! It’s not the filters, though. I cleaned them and smelled them and they are fine. It’s the actual unit. Anything I can do??? Will it eventually go away????

Does air travelling via a simple fan (no ionizer) through an electrostatic filter (like Filtrete) get ionized?

November 4th, 2010

Just to clarify a prior question, I had; I’ve heard that ionized air can be potentially harmful (i.e. free radicals) so I want to avoid air cleaners that ionize air. The 3M Filtrete electrostatic polyolefin-based filters (very common in furnace filters, and now as part of a standalone air purifier) are pre-charged with a static charge to attract dirt, dust, and particles of inflowing air.

My question is, as non-ionized (regular) air travels through the filter (via a simple fan, there is no ionizer involved) is there any way that it could pick up any of the charge on the electrostatic filter, or that the air can become somewhat ionized in any way or form after it leaves the filter? Now, AFAIK, air doesn’t conduct charges well, so my guess would be no, but I’d like to have an expert opinion.

Is a BlueAir 201 Air Purifier just to over the top to help my mild allergies?

October 31st, 2010

To explain my allergies better… I almost always have a stuffy nose at home and when I walk into school and my eyes water as I walk through hallways. I also have outdoor allergies like grass and ragweed. I’m just getting tired of taking Claritin D on some days. I was looking at this one http://www.blueairstore.com/blueair-201-R.shtml Can someone recommend something under 0 that have cheaper replacement filters?
I also wanted to mention I’m mainly looking for a air purifier to sleep better. Since I cant breath though my nose you can imagine how bad I sleep. DONT recommend the ionic breeze. According to consumer reports and this website http://www.airpurifiers.com/reviews.htm it doesn’t work!

is there any health contraindication to breathing air that's charcoal filtered?

Air purifier's carbon prefilter died, still ok to use (for allergies) if HEPA filter is fine?

October 19th, 2010

I bought this locally: http://www.allergytech.com/bionaire_bap725.htm

However, I foolishly assumed that the store I bought it at (Walmart) would carry the filter replacements, and it turns out they don’t. My fiancee and I are moving into a new place, and we’d like to have an air purifier for the sake of her allergies. Of course I’ll replace the carbon prefilters, but for the immediate future, would I be able to use it without? Will it be very effective with just the HEPA filter? I can’t find anywhere locally that sells the carbon filters. My best bet seems to be Amazon.com, but being in Canada, this is not as immediate of a solution (Amazon.ca does not have them).

do air purifiers really work?

October 16th, 2010

We think we might be moving into an apartment that has a mold problem. I hear that air purifiers can filter spores that can cause you to get sick. Do they really work?

What brand/make/model of AIR PURIFIER should I buy and where besides AMAZON.COM?

October 10th, 2010

I recently moved and I suffer from allergies. I was wondering what kind or Air Purifier I should buy. I have seen the ION BREEZE machines, but wonder if those work the same as a HEPA air filter, say from Target or WAL-MART, etc. I want something for my bedroom area only when I sleep at night and something quiet, not noisy. I plan on having a baby too soon, so would like something for them as well. I live in Arizona, so the air here sometimes gets really dirty and dry during the summers (106 heat, bus smog, dust mites, car exhaust, dust storms don’t go together! LOL). I just feel safer knowing my air is somewhat gettign cleaned and I am getting a good nights rest. I have seen these machines (various types) in my friends homes and they work really good. One them smokes in his house and his machine sucks the smoke right up out of the air. No residue on the furniture and smells. HELP PLEASE! LOL Just Kdding! I have looked an amazon for info. Just looking for suggestions! :)

Why bother spending big bucks on an air purifier?

October 7th, 2010

When you could just get a replacement filter and stick it in front of a fan. Aside from the UV and ionization technologies, there isn’t much more to most filters, and somehow, they get to over 0 pretty easily.

Anyone have suggestions on the best air purifier for a smoke filled home?

October 5th, 2010

I’m 28 an have been living in this house for most of my life. I moved out to live with boyfriends and what not, but for the most part have lived here. My uncle (who chain smokes) and my grandfather (who smokes cigars) has lived here the whole time I’ve been here, and before my mom and grandmother passed away they also smoked and lived here. Needless to say I’ve always got my fair share of 2nd hand smoke. I’m starting to get a cough now that I never had before, and I am wondering what is a good air filter for smoke? I have TWO air purifiers in my room that I have to constantly clean, of course one is old and the other is the ionic pro but with the smoke in this house it gets dirty SO fast I have to clean it every week.
I even have a filter type material double layered over my air vent but mostly that just keeps out dust, doesn’t work too well on smoke ;(
Some of you might say "well your 28, just move out" yea I wish I could..but I cant I because I’m taking care of my 81 year old grandfather who has cancer (he says cigars are his only "vice" and let me tell you, he smokes ALL day)
PLEASE I need advice on a good air purifier that’s affordable like 0 or under that is good for smoke & not just dust & allergens..any advice will be appreciated. I’m tired of not being able to breathe ;(

What kind of Air Purifier would be good for a large room?

October 2nd, 2010

Hi, I have a large living room (288 sq. ft) and I’ve been having trouble finding an air purifier that can handle that size of room. Does anyone have a living room around that size and could recommend an air purifier that would be good to get? Ideally, I’d also like to get one that has a filter that can be cleaned with a vacuum but not the end of the world if none are available. Thanks.

Does anyone know if Honeywell air purifier pre filters are supposed to have white powder on them?

October 2nd, 2010

I just bought the A Plus pre filter and when I unfolded it I noticed it has white powder on the entire inside surface. The box says nothing of a white powder, but it does say "deodorizes", so it might just be an odor reducer. I tried calling the company but they are closed on weekends, so i’ll have to wait til monday unless anyone else out there has had this experience or knows what it is.
Thank you!
